MS Single Wire Waterproof Connectors

The MS Single Wire Waterproof connectors are ozone-resistant rubber shell connectors made for Mil-Spec stranded copper wire applications where a good connection is required. An assembled connector is composed of male (pin) and female (socket) components, depending on the gender of its shell. Single wire waterproof connectors with pin contacts are referred to as “Female” connectors while the mating “Male” connectors” have socket contacts. Also referred to as “Packards”, MS Single Wire connectors are designed for use on all U.S. and NATO Military vehicles applications and withstand dielectric strength testing of 1000 volts.

Frequently Asked Questions

No matter where you are in the evaluation or use of connector solutions, questions are bound to arise. Here are the most common questions we field, with answers to guide you down the optimal path and offer insights into how Amerline can support your efforts.

What are MS Single Wire Waterproof Connectors?

MS Single Wire Waterproof Connectors are durable, weather-resistant connectors designed for secure and reliable electrical connections in demanding environments. An assembled connector is composed of a rubber boot, a washer or sleeve and male (pin) and female (socket) components, depending on the gender of its shell.

Why are MS Single Wire Waterproof Connectors referred to as “Packards”?

The term "Packard" for single-wire waterproof connectors comes from the historical legacy of the Packard Electric Company which developed sealed, durable, and weatherproof connectors that became widely used in industries such as automotive, military, and industrial sectors. The name stuck due to the connectors' reputation for quality, waterproofing, and reliability, and it continues to be used to describe MS single wire waterproof connectors today.

Where are MS Single Wire Waterproof Connectors used?

MS Single Wire Waterproof Connectors are used in military vehicles, trailers, and other applications that require a good electrical connection and water resistance. They are also known as "Packards". It is recommended that only MIL-DTL-13486/1 cable be used for military applications in order to obtain a waterproof seal.

How do I choose the right MS Single Wire Connector for my project?

MS single wire connectors are considered the go-to interconnect for military harness systems. They are typically used in vehicle lighting systems. MS single wire waterproof connectors are typically rated for certain wire gauges (e.g., AWG 12, AWG 14). Verify the “Packard” connector’s terminal compatibility with the wire you intend to connect.

What makes MS Single Wire Waterproof Connectors ideal for military applications?

MS Single Wire Waterproof connectors are produced to strict military specifications (MIL-Spec), which ensures they are tested and designed to meet high-performance standards for reliability, durability, and environmental resistance. “Packard” connectors are particularly useful in military automotive wiring, where multiple single-wire connections are often needed, and their weatherproofing ensures that each wire is protected individually from environmental influence.

Are Single Wire Waterproof connectors reliable?

MS Single Wire Waterproof connectors are designed for long service life, with minimal maintenance required. This is important to avoid downtime in critical operations and to reduce the need for frequent replacement of components. Their rugged design allows them to maintain their performance with little need for maintenance or servicing, even in the field, which is a significant advantage in military operations.
